Business
Partners
If
you are a company or research organisation, ETNA can advise you if there
are likely to be western companies or research organisations willing to
do business with you. To do this you need to speak with us to explain
your own business and your market strengths.
ETNA
will then add your details to its database for western companies to
explore possible business partners in
Asia
and
Australasia
. We have plans to
make this searchable on-line by the end of March 2007.
We
also have extensive details on file of the deal interests of western
companies, large and small. If we find western companies with matching
interests to yours, we can approach them also with your details, and
tell you if they are interested. We only make approaches that you
approve specifically or that fit with a brief to proceed in a search you
have given us.
Assistance
in Business Development Strategy and Deal Negotiations
Some
examples of how ETNA can assist you in these important areas:
ETNA will introduce you to partners that it thinks will be good for your
business model. Beyond this we can advise on where the market could
offer you the best appreciation of the assets and skills of your
company, and this may go beyond your current business model. There may
also be some downstream consequences of your choice of technology that
affect the cost and ease of the path of market.
In
doing deals with prospective business partners, the structure of the
deal can be quite varied. Behind your negotiating position you need to
be sure about your own standing in relation to issues like: challenges
to your IP, regulatory hurdles awaiting you, competitors for your
technology, competitive interest in partnering with your type of
technology, and other expert areas where experience of downstream
markets give a real business edge. Through our chosen associates, we can
arrange due diligence, market advice to make the best of your
negotiating base.
We
can also assist in structuring the final deal, and can act as an advisor
or as an honest broker to assist you and your prospective partner to
move rapidly to a point where you know your deal expectations are
compatible and you can offer a term sheet.
Research
Grants from
Europe
There
is a programme in
Europe
called the
European Research Framework Programme, which offers grants for certain
types of research including life sciences. In December 2006, the next
5-year programme begins. These research projects can be designed to
develop a commercial drug or another product, or to create grater
scientific understanding. In general, the projects must show joint
collaboration between at least three international partners within
Europe
. Non-European
partners can join such projects and can benefit from these research
grants.
ETNA is an official agent for introducing companies to these grants.

Attending Events to meet Western Companies in
Europe
ETNA has great knowledge about the many trade events in
Europe
where you can
meet western companies. We can advise you which events would be most
useful to you. We also organise programmes that bring western companies
to visit
Asia
and
Australasia
. Some of these
are managed on behalf of European governments, and also others are run
as a business.
Looking
for business in
Australasia
for western
Clients
We
already have projects where western companies have asked us to find
overseas partners.
We
are seeking a manufacturer and distributor for a new western anti-ageing
cream. This is the first cream on the market to have proven results
based on biotechnology research and development.
We are seeking new drugs which can be developed in the west under
licence. Our clients are wealthy developers that typically in-license
products from phII onwards, or possibly
ph I. Some are looking at novel
products only, serving unmet need, while others are interested in
reformulations, and in developing OTC and nutraceuticals into western
markets simply on a basis of a good market proposition.
How
much does this cost?
ETNA
will explore terms that will fit the circumstances of its client, so
there is no fixed formula. We
are driven by a desire to see good propositions reach their market
potential.
Other
services
ETNA
also provides strategic advice on innovation policy and technology
transfer for economic growth.
Current
clients include Governments, regional agencies, and universities.
